Is Islam a religion of hate?

#Islam #USA #Pakistan

Answer by Saad Ghazipura:

Here's some food for thought. The absolute numbers are outdated but the idea is the same.

I will concede that you don't have to  be a part of Al Qaeda to be a terrorist but even if those were taken  into account the numbers would still be miniscule compared to the rest  of the population. I've said this once before, "One bad apple does NOT  ruin the bunch but it sure gives everyone a bad reputation."

Why does the bad apple do this? Media, press coverage, society, ignorance, but mostly a combination of all of these things.

Example:

Advertisement on the MTA (NYC subway). Quote without context:

Thanks to Joshua Engel for pointing out in the comments the context of the above:
"I'd find it ironic, were it not so horrific, is the way they've misquoted the Sura. The full text is:
We  will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they  have associated with Allah of which He had not sent down [any]  authority.
That is… Allah will punish those who lie about his  words, not disbelievers in general. Which is exactly what they've done  in quoting only a fraction of a sentence."

With Context:

As a general rule if something elicits a strong emotional response from you GOOD or BAD, always consider looking at the situation from the other side no matter how wrong it may seem. Often our emotions cloud our judgement and prevent us from thinking logically. Politicians and the media are great at drawing out strong emotions as doing so allows their views to resonate with us longer. Emotions are great fuel when supported by logical arguments but can breed hatred when they are just blind beliefs.

Final thought:
I was born and raised in the US and was around when the 9/11 happened. Overnight Arabs went from just another ethnic group to public enemy number one. Imagine your home country on the news 24/7, people who happened to be from there and who may even look like you found as the culprits. Nothing changed about the Muslims living in the US before or after 9/11. They went to sleep one day and woke up the next. They saw the news and were as shocked as the rest of us. They are the same people except that now to make sure they don't miss their flight they arrive at the airport 2x earlier than the recommended time. (I'm not Arab but being of Pakistani descent I've been "randomly selected" for extra screening quite a few times 😀 )

A related Question about the mta ads: Politics: Should advertisements that target a certain group negatively be allowed?

Learning to Live Without Recognition is a Skill !

563861_562986807065500_186656060_n

There was a farmer who had a horse and a goat…..
One day, the horse became ill. So he called the veterinarian, who said:

“Well, your horse has a virus. He must take this medicine for three days.
I’ll come back on the 3rd day and if he’s not better, we’re going to have to put him down.

Nearby, the goat listened closely to their conversation.

The next day, they gave the horse the medicine and left.

The goat approached the horse and said: “Be strong, my friend.
Get up or else they’re going to put you to sleep!”

On the second day, they again gave the horse the medicine and left.

The goat came back and said: “Come on buddy, get up or else you’re going to die!
Come on, I’ll help you get up. Let’s go! One, two, three…”

On the third day, they came to give the horse the medicine and the vet said:
“Unfortunately, we’re going to have to put him down tomorrow. Otherwise,
the virus might spread and infect the other horses”.

After they left, the goat approached the horse and said: “Listen pal, it’s now or never!
Get up, come on! Have courage! Come on! Get up! Get up! That’s it, slowly! Great!
Come on, one, two, three… Good, good. Now faster, come on…… Fantastic! Run, run more!
Yes! Yay! Yes! You did it, you’re a champion…!!!”

All of a sudden, the owner came back, saw the horse running in the field and began shouting:
It’s a miracle! My horse is cured. We must have a grand party. Let’s kill the goat!!!!

The Lesson:

Nobody truly knows which employee actually deserves the merit of success, or who’s actually contributing the necessary support to make things happen.

Remember:

LEARNING TO LIVE WITHOUT RECOGNITION IS A SKILL!!!!

If anyone ever tells you that your work is unprofessional, remember:

AMATEURS BUILT THE ARK [which saved all the species]

and

PROFESSIONALS BUILT THE TITANIC [all died tragically]

DO WE REALLY USE ONLY 10 PERCENT OF OUR BRAINS?

10 Tips for BRAIN HEALTHPsychologists in the early twentieth century commented that humans use only 10 percent of their brains, and Albert Einstein also indicated that humans use only a small portion of the brain It’s a theory that has been propounded in television documentaries, magazines, advertisements and books over the past century Psychics have also latched on to it as a possible explanation for paranormal behavior, attributing unusual incidents to the workings of the unused portion of the brain They profess that 90 percent of the brain consists of untapped potential that is capable of remarkable feats.

Nearly all scientists now agree that the theory that we use only 10 percent of our total brain function is completely unfounded In fact, they question how this figure was arrived at in the first place and what areas of the brain are supposed to be redundant The theory supposes that if 90 percent of the brain were removed, a person would still be able to function normally, whereas in reality it is known that damage to even a small area of the brain can result in physical devastation.

In addition, most significant disorders of the brain involve only a small and very specific area of the brain If the 10 percent argument was true, it’s unlikely that so many problems would persistently occur in that area And if we use only 10 percent of our nerves and neurons in the brain, how would this be measured? Indeed, imaging of the brain in scans shows that all parts of the brain are used for different activities and that many areas of the brain are used for some complex activities or thought processes Throughout the course of one day, most areas of the brain are active at
some time, even during sleep The 10 percent theory suggests that a discrete area of the brain is not used, whereas scans reveal activity throughout the entire brain and not in any isolated segment The final nail in the 10 percent theory is the fact that neurosurgeons carefully map the brain before removing tumors so that they don’t compromise other essential areas.

From an evolutionary perspective, it’s highly unlikely that our comparatively larger brains would have evolved from our ancestors if the extra areas were surplus to requirements In fact, there is absolutely no evidence to support the 10 percent theory

Google to Retire Google Health, PowerMeter Services

th_1038696

Google said Friday that it would retire Google Health and Google PowerMeter, neither of which achieved the critical mass that Google felt would be necessary to continue it. In the case of Google Health, the site will remain operational until Jan. 1, 2012. From then until Jan. 1, 2013, users will not be able to use the site but will be able to download their data. Google PowerMeter, on the other hand, will be retired on Sept. 16 of this year.

Both were based on the idea that with more and better information, people can make smarter choices, whether in regard to managing personal health and wellness, or saving money and conserving energy at home," Aaron Brown, senior product manager of Google Health, and Bill Weihl, the Google "green energy czar," wrote in a blog post on Friday. "While they didn’t scale as we had hoped, we believe they did highlight the importance of access to information in areas where it’s traditionally been difficult."

Google Health went live in May 2008. >Users could log in to the service at google.com/health to import their medical records, fill prescriptions, and get lab results, set up text-based pill alerts, keep track of immunizations, and get pertinent news alerts. The last major update was in Sept. 2010, when the company revamped the site to place more of an emphasis on wellness.

"Now, with a few years of experience, we’ve observed that Google Health is not having the broad impact that we hoped it would," Brown and Weihl wrote. "There has been adoption among certain groups of users like tech-savvy patients and their caregivers, and more recently fitness and wellness enthusiasts. But we haven’t found a way to translate that limited usage into widespread adoption in the daily health routines of millions of people."

Users can download their personal information from the site in one of several formats: printable PDF, a Continuity of Care record in XML format, CSV files, HTML or XML versions, or a unified ZIP archive.
Over the coming weeks Google will also be adding the ability to directly transfer your health data to other services that support the Direct Project protocol, an emerging open standard for efficient health data exchange, the company said.

Users can still transfer and store their information in Microsoft’s HealthVault, an online data store that was launched in 2007. But Hohm, Microsoft’s alternative for homeowners to manage their energy consumption has also been refocused on the smart grid and electrical vehicles.

In PowerMeter’s case, more and more information is being made available to consumers online, as with the controversial SmartMeter from Pacific Gas & Electric.

"Momentum is building toward making energy information more readily accessible, and it’s exciting to see others drive innovation and pursue opportunities in this important new market," Brown and Weihl wrote. "We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished with PowerMeter and look forward to what will develop next in this space."

Card.io Snaps A Photograph Of Your Credit Card, Makes Mobile Payments Easier

One of the biggest services hitting the market this year, at least on the mobile front, is mobile payments. Put simply, they’re everywhere, and they’re spread fast. The North American market has been slow to move towards this technology, but now that NFC, Google Wallet, and Square are making waves, it seems like every company in the world is trying their hand at something similar.

The newly announced Card.io SDK adds yet another new player to the mix, but it’s a market that could stand the competition. Basically, this makes accepting credit cards via your iPhone even easier, as it taps into the camera to just photograph and process the card. A demo video below does a great job of showcasing what’s possible here, and we’re hopefully that it will come to Android, BlackBerry and the rest of the works soon.

No Nishan-e-Haider for Lt. Yasir Abbas Shaheed

nishan-e-haider

We Pakistanis are in state of dilemma, we trust on those facts only, what our media portrays. And above all, we civilians knows nothing about Military operations, its awards and decorations.

And on the basis of media and internet hype, exaggerates fallacy. There are SOP on military awards about its categorization and eligibility. Lt. Yasir Abbas Shaheed, ought to be bestowed, but strongly based on military investigation, Sitara-i-Jur’at or Hilal-i-Jur’at.

But Nishan-i-Haider is more prestigious and is the highest military award, is only for those members who have performed acts of greatest heroism or of the most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme danger, and have shown bravery of the highest order, or devotion to the country in the presence of the enemy on land, at sea or in the air. Basis on the current facts and figures, Operation PNS Mehran was complete failure.

According to the Intl reports the Lt. was at the hanger speaking to his mother on his cellphone when he was targeted and killed instantly. He did lost his life for our country, but IMHO not something to mark Nishan-e-Haider.

His mother suggested this idea while exaggerating about his son in an interview initially to City042 and then Samaa TV etc., and only reason she wanted Nishan-e-Haider was, he was a Haidari bacha. And if Lt Yasir deserved a Nisha-e-Haider, why not the other 8 Navy personal (JCOs) and the 02 Rangers who actually entered in operation to fight and embraced shahadat while fighting.
